Will banning vapes cause more issues? | SBS Insight
Retail vape sales may be banned in Australia this year. Is this simply the new frontier of an old war? And could prohibition actually work? Insight explores this question with guests including Pam, whose husband died at age 71, with his autopsy revealing his condition could be linked to extended vape use before his death. Lilly’s vaping habit became extreme, leading to multiple hospitalisations for pneumonia. It took her three years of attempts to finally quit. Dragan was a lifelong smoker and says his health was deteriorating before he turned to vaping. He believes vaping is a healthier continuation of his addiction. Kirra was mortified to find her youngest daughter, Abi, vaping at only 10 years old. Although Abi no longer vapes, Kirra, who has struggled with her own nicotine addiction, still worries about how easily kids can get their hands on vapes. Terence is a 26-year-old tradie who was quitting smoking by vaping but has now returned to smoking following issues with his gut health. Rochelle is the principal of a high school on the Gold Coast and has observed a rise in vape use among students since 2019 and believes it's an epidemic. Alec picked up smoking as a teenager and absolutely regrets it. Despite this, he feels that vaping has saved his health. Kylie says that the prescription model is going to be impossible in rural areas and she will turn to the black market. She knows it is not ideal for her health, but nothing has ever helped her quit smoking. Former Border Force official Rohan says that police and government agencies have more important things to be working on than policing the illicit vape and tobacco trade. Alec says that since the border crackdown, while stock is in high supply, he’s now bulk buying a lot of vapes at a time. Dr. Carolyn is a GP who runs an online business that allows people to quickly and easily pay for vape prescriptions.

I never look at my phone. However maybe because I am too busy eating chocolates!
He should’ve retired from stand up comedy.
Just change the channel, it is really that easy!
Dave is a lot funnier on stage than he is on crap like the Masked Singer. He absolutely killed it at the Logies but I admit that seems like a long time ago
Hughesy is a complete dudd foistered upon us by some useless moronic TV executives who are probably ex- ABC. Get him off TV.
I would never think of asking a virtual stranger their ethnicity. And if, for some reason, the person tells me, okay, that’s fine, that’s interesting. I’d tell mine, half Irish, a quarter Polish, a quarter Russian/Ukrainian (Soviet) How do I “identify?” Just as I said! All three cultures are important to me. If I have pick one? I really can’t. I’d rather identify by religious background. All of my family is Catholic of some sort, both Eastern and Latin rites.
This is scary
Facts Sean, thank you!
I love sbs Insight!
Sean is right!
😮😮 we have right technology stop why and find out who doing.. Why not being used correctly, no different many other things human world causing concerns to themselves others and in life??
When you restrict who can talk about a subject, you create bigger problems & you're taking away a basic human right that everyone should be able to practice, regardless of where you're from. We need to be able to talk about this stuff without the whole setting falling into emotional chaos, people need to understand that debating a subject is the place in which we can come to a solution, but it's not the place to attack others, it's a place of neutral ground. I hope we can start to talk about this as a collective rather than just constantly being at each other's throats and never actually fixing the problem 😞
Fantastic episode! Wokeness has taken over the world! 😵💫🤢
totally correct woke culture has gone way to far
Sean nailed it. The woke are bullies refusing respectful discourse and demanding everyone go along with anything they demand.
Nuanced discussion of a complicated issue.
Anything you say will offend someone, somewhere
Very well said Sean
Very touching stories. May they all find peace love and God, whom I find is very much a requirement 🙏💗🙏
This was a very interesting episode. This is a minefield. I’m 60yo. I’m finding a lot of people under 30yo offended by everything and take themselves very seriously. Resilience and character don’t seem to be encouraged anymore. The rubbish behaviour we all went through in the 70s and 80s - I don’t know if the current generation could of handled what we went through. I find trans people take themselves very very seriously. There is no humour with anything anymore, I hope I haven’t offended too many people with my comment.
This was so interesting. I'm so happy there are people out there to assist people in their choice of death💗
The answer: yes. Even your warning is ridiculous.
Love seeing all the calm and productive conversations on this channel. Good stuff Australia.
Cheers
Spot on
Inside leftist politics, there are generational gaps. The end goal is the always the same though, which is ensuring everyone is respected with how they want to be respected. I agree with him & can understand his sensibilities in terms of how confusing it can be to identify with people now. My approach is, if you aren't sure, always refer to the person as 'they', when I do this, the person will naturally correct me & that's absolutely fine by me. Its happened to me before, and I wasn't offended in the slightest. I told them that they can refer to me as she/her
Woke culture
Our body. Our choice. it should be as simple as that.
💟👍
Such brave people ❤
Some really hard life choices there 😭but Who names tumours! Jeez I’ve seen and heard it all now All the best with the surgery x
I have problems with my feet due to the blood return valves not working properly I have pain every day some days are better than others they won't operate on me due to my weight but it's in my genetics and i have had a weight problem all of my life I have to endure pain I think I have a high pain threshes hold some days are better than others and some days I do get depressed I am 52 years old
Great program! I'm glad that one of the commenters mentioned that pain makes you socially isolated. When I hurt I can barely form words, and the last thing I want to do is to deal with other people. I try my best to be a nice person, but I get so cranky and short tempered, that I don't even want to be in the same room with myself.
This program on chronic pain is exactly what I needed to hear. Living in Canada it seems the wait to even get connected to helpful programs as described is years wait and would need to travel 2 hours there & back to such a facility. I am now at the stage with chronic pain where I simply no longer enjoy being in my body. So much energy goes into the search for this kind of help we all want…it can be overwhelmingly tiring/stressful. Thank you SBS Insight ❤🇨🇦
👍
I looked at the faces of the auditorium when the pain sufferers told their stories. Their facial expressions showed so much compassion. 🇸🇪
Very interesting, thanks 😊
Wow
I just love insight! Always bring formation in a good format.
I am a Stage 4 cancer patient in NZ where this legislation has been in place for a short time too. And I want to live, but not Suffer, I found this presentation Brilliant! Moving, Inspiring! and insightful, except for the narrow minded Dr Mark who's clearly deluded! and doesn't know that he does not know this, if he could see it, he would know and his whole world would shift. Until then, unfortuately for him, Like many others he is representative of,, Stuck! is Stuck!
😶
Voluntary Assisted Dying, as well as Euthanasia, should be legal practices in every country around the world.
Well, I myself think everyone should have the right to decide when they want to be ..done..their own decisions no one else
America has multiple facilities with patients whom are in beds and no quality of life. Aged care is terrible but these people are unable to make a decision about dying. No they cannot rid pain
I liked the fact that it was described as a "beautiful" experience.
We have MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) in Canada. Thank God. I’m all for it! Patient autonomy and freedom to choose. ❤️🇨🇦. I’m a Registered Nurse and have been a hospice volunteer for 25 years. Palliative care is wonderful but having the right to choose is vital.
Powerful and emotional episode
Im so relieved to know that ppl have been listened to genuinely, whilst meeting the ultimate goal of their/our FREEDOM of CHOICE. 💜💕 Grateful in extravagant heartfelt ways to all who have taken this final journey! We love you!🎶
Nice 👍
Always such interesting topics.
An outstanding program! Everyone where so open and personal. ❤️ Before you yourself have dealt with trauma, you never know what people are thinking at that traumatic moment and afterwards. This program was an eye opener for me, even though I have dealt with trauma. But I have not really reflected of it this way. I hope the shark lady will be able to play actively with her son again.
Wishing each of these folks a beautiful future.
